Video Editing 101 is a video-based, self-paced course designed to take students on a 16-week deep dive into the world of video editing. Each week covers essential topics that build a strong foundation for aspiring editors, from basic to advanced editing techniques, organizing files, color correction, eye tracing, foley, sound design, and more.
We offer two versions of this course—one for Premiere Pro and one for iMovie—so students can learn using the software that best suits their needs. You will also get different choices for movies within the workbook.
iMovie is best for younger beginning students, while Premiere Pro is a paid subscription to Adobe and is better for high school students (this version is also slightly more PG-13 leaning).
We also offer two flexible learning paths, allowing you to progress at your own pace:
- Charter Version – Perfect for independent learners, this version provides full access to all course materials, including video tutorials, resources, and editing exercises. You’ll have everything you need to develop your video editing skills at your own pace, making it ideal for those who prefer a self-guided approach.
- Editor’s Room Version – For those who want a more interactive experience, this version includes access to an exclusive online community through Filmmaker’s Edge. Here, you can connect with fellow students, share your editing projects, and receive feedback from both peers and instructors. You’ll have the opportunity to upload your work, discuss techniques, and gain new insights—all while learning on your own schedule.
Both options provide the flexibility of self-paced learning while helping you build strong video editing skills. Choose the version that best fits your goals!
